The field of Medial Physics has gone through an enormous growth over the last 3 decades. Conventional education in physics is not enough to perform the specialized medical physics services. The guidelines for training and education of medical physics and the elements of an ideal Medical Physics program suited to meet the needs of a modern imaging and radiation oncology will be discussed. Examples of training program in the US will be used to illustrate the course work and training requirements and how these are provided to prepare the candidates for professional medical physicists of the 21st century.
