The purpose of this talk is to present an overview of the clinical IMRT procedure and issues related to the implementation of the new radiation modality. We will report on the current status of IMRT practice and discuss a series of clinical questions, such as the importance of patient localization and immobilization, performance of the inverse planning optimization, how much of an improvement can intensity modulation makes to radiotherapy dose distributions, the accuracy of the dose model and delivery system, and the efficiency of the dynamic/static MLC delivery algorithm of the system, and treatment verification.
