2B02-CURRENT CALIBRATION PROTOCOLS

The most recent protocols (AAPM TG-51 and IAEA TRS-398) for the dosimetry of photon and electron beams will be discussed. Both protocols use chamber calibration factor in terms of absorbed dose to water at the reference point of measurement in a cobalt-60 beam. Ionization charge measured in the user’s beam is converted to dose using Bragg-Gray cavity theory and chamber perturbation factors normalized to cobalt-60 beam. Details of the TG-51 and TRS-398 protocols will be presented along with their comparison.
